Q: How did you get the idea for HALF A KINGDOM?
A: This is an Icelandic folktale. I liked the idea of writing about a peasant girl who finds the missing prince. The girl doesn’t want the reward until the King fixes the wrongs of his kingdom. I kept the general idea of the folk tale but told it in my own way. Swans and evil trolls add to the fun. Nola Langner’s illustrations have never been better.
