Too Much Noise

Q: How did you get the idea for TOO MUCH NOISE?

A: A friend told me the story of an old folk tale she loved. I was sick with a bad flu and I had a fever but I tried to write down part of what my friend had said. When I was well again, I showed my work to her and she said it was nothing like the story she had told me. My story tuned out to be TOO MUCH NOISE. It’s been available in hardcover and paperback since 1967, which makes it a classic. The illustrations are by Simms Taback, who won the highest honor an illustrator can get — the Caldecott Medal.
